Travel Weekly wins Lata feature award for third year running

Travel Weekly has taken home a prestigious industry award for the third year in a row, in recognition of its efforts in promoting travel to Latin America.

Acting features and supplements editor Katie McGonagle won the Trade Publication Feature of the Year Award at a ceremony held by the Latin American Travel Association (Lata) last night, for her guide to northeast Brazil.

This is the third successive year Travel Weekly has scooped the award, with previous wins by features and supplements editor Joanna Booth, for articles on travel to the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island, both published in luxury title Aspire.

The awards attracted 140 entries across categories covering travel writing and photography in national newspapers, consumer magazines and online, with other winners including National Geographic, The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times Travel Magazine.

Lata chairman Byron Shirto praised the article for shining a light on the lesser-known region of Chapada Diamantina in northeast Brazil at a time when so much attention was being focused on the forthcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The awards, sponsored by expedition cruise company Ecoventura, were held in Peruvian restaurant Lima Floral in central London, and attracted representatives from Jacada Travel, Journey Latin America, Rainbow Travel, Silversea and Tucan Travel.
