Airbnb advertising chief to head up marketing at Celebrity Cruises

The former head of global advertising for Airbnb has been named as chief marketing officer at Celebrity Cruises.

Peter Giorgi led the development and execution of creative marketing platforms at the accommodation-sharing site.

His work at Airbnb included launching various campaigns in areas such as community-driven social, global film and digital, cultural as well as working on digital content.

Giorgi also spent eight years at advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, working on brands including Volkswagen, Jose Cuervo and vitaminwater.

He will oversee the cruise line’s new 'Modern Luxury Lives Here' brand campaign, as well as all aspects global marketing platforms, brand strategy and development, digital marketing, social media, research, loyalty, direct marketing and advertising. 

Giorgi joins Celebrity on April 15 and will report to president and chief executive Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.

She said: "We are excited for Peter to join our team. We are looking forward to him bringing his many years of creativity, brand strategy, disruptive and bold marketing, and success with other well-known consumer brands.

“His experience and approach is perfectly aligned with the direction we are setting for Celebrity. 

“We anticipate he will do wonderful things for our brand and set us apart in the way that Celebrity deserves.

"With so many thrilling initiatives and the introduction of the Edge Class [ships] on the immediate horizon, we feel that Peter's impressive experience and style of creativity, combined with his ability to develop ideas based on an original, novel, or unconventional approaches, will be exactly what we need to attract more affluent travellers to sail with us."

The appointment came as Celebrity unveiled plans to introduce high speed internet capability across its fleet.

The Xcelerate system is available on Celebrity Reflection and will be introduced across the rest of the fleet with the exception of Galapagos Islands’ based ship Celebrity Xpedition.

The cost of unlimited access starts at $140 per person for five to nine days and $199 per person for 10 days or more.
