Manchester airport creates new trade-facing role

Manchester airport has created a new travel trade marketing manager role off the back of its ‘Fly Manchester’ campaign.

Nico Spyrou has previously worked in the B2B marketing team at STA Travel UK, at digital agency Capture Marketing and marketing consultancy JUXDIT.

He will be the key point of contact for all trade-related activity and spend time on the road as well as organising and delivering events throughout Manchester airport’s catchment area, which includes parts of Merseyside, Yorkshire, the Midlands and Scotland.

Patrick Alexander, head of marketing for Manchester airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nico to the team during this period of growth following the successful Fly Manchester marketing campaign to win back passengers in our catchment.

“Nico has a wealth of expertise in travel marketing and, coming from Liverpool originally, we hope he will also help us tap into the Merseyside mindset and encourage people from Liverpool and the surrounding areas to choose Manchester airport ahead of London, when it comes to long-haul flying.”

Spyrou added: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Manchester airport at such an exciting time in its history, with record-breaking numbers of passengers using the airport, and the £1billion terminal transformation project ahead.

“Manchester and Liverpool are two fantastic northern powerhouse cities, alongside the likes of Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Hull and beyond, so I am looking forward to working on behalf of the gateway airport for the north of England to strengthen ties with the trade in these areas.”

Manchester airport has seen passenger traffic increase to 23 million in recent times.
