Travel's 'fab five' named among best companies to work for

Red Carnation Hotels, Holiday Extras, Audley Travel, Flight Centre UK and Kuoni have been ranked as among the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to work for.

A list of the best businesses to work for was revealed yesterday in a special supplement following an awards function last week.

Red Carnation Hotel Collection, run by Beatrice Tollman for more than 60 years, was ranked second overall, behind online insurer Simply Business.

She describes caring for the workforce as being “simply good business practice”.

In response, her staff give her an 87% positive score for being an inspiring leader (just one other boss is ranked higher), and they feel Tollman runs the organisation based on sound moral principles, according to the 15th annual ranking.

Holiday Extras, which enables its 482 staff the option to work flexibly, appeared in fifth position, up from tenth in 2014.

Tailor made travel specialist Audley Travel was in 51st position and Flight Centre UK, which spent more than £1.5 million on staff training last year, was ranked 61st.

Kuoni was listed 76th in the second year running the worldwide holiday company has been listed in the awards.

UK managing director Derek Jones said: “I’m incredibly proud we’ve been listed for the second year running and to be there with 99 other companies across all sectors which are doing some incredible work to motivate their people.  It’s an inspiring process to be part of.

“It’s such a thorough process from start to finish involving feedback from our own staff, all judged independently and thoroughly, we are delighted to be part of it once again.

But we’re never complacent, we want to continue to improve staff well being, development opportunities  and learning right across Kuoni in a way that’s fun and relevant.”
