Airtours goes direct to woo new market

AIRTOURS has launched a new direct business which aims to tap into the independent travel market.

The Enfield-based operation – Space – will sell scheduled flights, car hire, hotels and insurance over the phone 24hrs a day.

Managing director of direct distribution Jonathan Mindell said the new business will attract a new market rather than compete with Airtours’ high-street shops.

“There is a market which doesn’t book through travel agents and when it came to products such as scheduled flights we were not offering it,” he said. “This will not cannibalise existing Airtours business but will create new customers for the group.”

Information is contained on a new Internet site which will become interactive by the end of the year. A 36-strong team has been recruited to get Space off the ground.
