A loved-up couple would like to turn Valentine’s Day into a long weekend at a UK country house hotel. They’d love to push the boat out on a luxurious property with character, beautiful grounds and perhaps a spa. Budget: £500.

There was a warm welcome at this store, as a pleasant agent came over to greet me the moment I walked in.
It felt more like a friendly conversation than a consultation, and the agent still managed to elicit all the details she needed to start searching for breaks.
She recommended The Belsfield Hotel in Windermere at £380 for bed and breakfast or £554 half-board for three nights with Superbreak, starting on February 14.
It didn’t have a spa, but I was won over by the beautiful photos I saw on the Superbreak website and by the agent’s enthusiasm.
The printed quote was a little basic – it would have been nice to have a few more details of the hotel so I could go home and show them to my partner – but little touches like using my name and listening to every detail of my request made me feel like a genuinely valued customer
