Resilient British travellers are ignoring the eurozone crisis and unrest in the Middle East by continuing to book holidays in countries such as Spain, Turkey and Egypt.
Tenerife is the top package holiday destination, while Dalaman and Bodrum in Turkey come in second and fifth place respectively, analysis of bookings made in June via Multicom’s FindandBook system shows.
Majorca is the most booked flight-only destination and the third most popular place for package holidays, while Benidorm is the number one spot for accommodation-only bookings.
Spanish destinations feature prominently as holidaymakers search for a great deal despite any concerns or fears they may have about the ongoing eurozone crisis. Three Greek islands feature in the chart of most booked package destinations together with Tunisia.
Demand for Turkey and Sharm el Sheikh is also high, allaying any worries that the strife in Syria and the wider Middle East troubles are discouraging Britons from heading to the area, Multicom says.
Las Vegas remains the most popular accommodation-only destination outside of Europe, second only to Benidorm.
Majorca, Faro and Tenerife were the top three most booked flight-only destinations booked in June.
Multicom managing director John Howell said: “The data revealed some very interesting trends and information that is very useful to agents.
“The fact that the eurozone crisis and ongoing unrest in the Middle East does not appear to be a deterrent for British holidaymakers underlines the resilience of UK travellers.”
