Wizz Air adds UK routes to new Romanian base

Routes to Luton and Liverpool John Lennon airports will be offered  by Wizz Air this winter from a new base in Romania.

Flights from Bacau will run daily to Luton and twice a week to Liverpool from October 29 with one-way fares starting at £21.99.

The two new routes follow recent growth in Wizz Air’s UK network, with new routes this summer from Luton to Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Malaga, Palma, Lanzarote, Corfu, Heraklion, Rhodes, Zakynthos, Faro and Marrakesh.

Flights to Faro, the budget carrier’s third route from the UK to Portugal, started on Tuesday.

The new base in Bacau is Wizz Air’s second in the Moldavia region in Romania, besides Iasi.

Two Airbus A320s will support a total of 12 routes inlcuding Turin, Venice Treviso, Bologna, Rome Fiumicino, Milan Bergamo, Catania, Larnaca, Memmingen/Munich West, Billund, and Brussels Charleroi.

Chief executive Jozsef Varadi said: “Opening the newest Wizz Air base and allocating two state-of-the-art modern aircraft emphasises the importance of the Romanian market for our operations.

“By adding 12 new exciting routes and keeping ourselves to the highest standards of our sanitising protocols, we are confident that Wizz Air’s ultra-low fares and great route network will make travel affordable to ever more passengers in Romania.”
