A former mobile phone company financial chief has joined the board of Thomas Cook Group as an independent non-executive director.

Martine Verluyten has held a number of senior finance positions across the telecommunications, electronics and materials sectors. She was described as having “significant international financial and IT expertise”.

Verluyten is chief financial officer of Brussels-based materials technology group Umicore and previously held a similar role at mobile telephone operator Mobistar. Thomas Cook Group chairman Michael Beckett said: “This appointment further strengthens and enhances our board, in line with its policy on diversity.

“Martine brings valuable expertise and significant international experience to our deliberations as we deliver against our strategy and create value for our shareholders.”
