Viking creates digital TV platform to ‘stay connected’ to guests

Ocean and river cruise brand Viking has introduced a digital TV platform as it looks to “stay connected” to its guests.

Viking.TV features live footage from destination experts and the brand’s ‘cultural partners’, as well as content that guests would usually see on cruise itineraries.

The platform’s content includes reading lists, film suggestions and music playlists, as well as video footage from the Munch Museum in Oslo, Q&A sessions with historians, and digital yoga and meditation classes. A digital cook book called ‘The Kitchen Table’ has recipes grouped by the country and guests can also submit their favourite dishes.

Viking’s executive vice president Karine Hagen said: “Right now, we are all staying at home instead of travelling together, but that does not have to mean that the only thing we can do is watch the news.

“My father, Torstein Hagen, and I felt that if we cannot for the time being bring out guests to the world, let’s bring the world to our guests. Viking.TV is a way for us to continue exploring the world in comfort – from the comfort of our homes. And as soon as actual travel is less complicated again, we are ready to welcome you onboard.”

Viking was the first cruise line to temporarily suspend operations of its river and ocean cruises due to coronavirus, and has since extended its suspension of operations from April 30 until June 30.
