Virgin Atlantic relaxes flight change fees due to coronavirus

Flight date change fees are being waived by Virgin Atlantic for tickets issued this month in response to challenges caused by coronavirus.

The relaxation of commercial policy is available to passengers that have a ticket purchased between March 4 and March 31 for travel until September 30.

Tickets can be reissued up until the day before departure.

The policy has been implemented to protect customers from the challenges that the emergence of Covid-19 presents, according to the airline.

It applies to all routes on Virgin Atlantic’s international network and tickets booked on codeshare flights on transatlantic routes with joint venture partners Delta Air Lines, Air France and KLM.

Virgin Atlantic has suspended Heathrow-Shanghai flights until April 19 and is operating an amended Heathrow-Hong Kong schedule due to the impact of the virus.

Chief commercial officer Juha Jarvinen said: “We understand that with evolving travel advice, some of our customers may wish to build in some flexibility to upcoming travel plans.

“This new policy enables them to continue with their Virgin Atlantic booking this month, with the peace of mind that there is the option to change their flight at a later date, without incurring a fee.”
