New York City instigates $20m global tourism push

A new $20 million promotional campaign for New York City aims to reach 22 countries around the world.

Tourism body NYC & Company is collaborating with operators and airlines to offer packages and flight-only deals in a bid to boost arrivals in the first quarter of 2020.

Adverts will appear in the UK – the city’s leading international source market – in conjunction with British Airways.

Ireland will be targeted for the first time with the ‘Famous Original New York City’ promotion.

A new digital push will appear next month on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in the UK, Brazil, India and Mexico.

The NYCGO.com website is also being enhancing with the ability to book restaurants, hotels and attractions.

The tourism organisation expects 2019 to be the tenth consecutive year of visitor growth for New York City, with 66.9 million arrivals including 13.9 million from overseas.

This would see the total rise from 65 million visitors last year.

New York City claims to have the most active hotel development pipeline in the US, with 20,000 rooms to be added to 123,000 currently available.

NYC & Company chief marketing officer Nancy Mammana said: “We are pleased to launch the latest and largest installment of our ‘Famous Original’ global tourism campaign to inspire visitors to choose New York City now for their next holiday.

“This latest iteration not only features engagement with a multitude of travel trade partners, but also an enhanced and more personalised digital experience for visitors planning their next visit to The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.”
