Wizz Air adds new route from Southend airport

Romania’s second biggest city of Isai is to be served by low-cost carrier Wizz Air from Southend airport next summer.

Flights to the cultural capital of Romania, located in the Moldavia region, start in August 2020 with one-way fares leading in at £26.99.

The service to the universiry city will run four days a week on Mondays. Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

The new route means that the budget carrier now offers more than ten million seats on 108 routes to 30 countries from 11 UK airports.

The airline starts flying from the Essex airport this month with three routes – to Bucharest and Sibiu in Romania ands Vilnius in Lithuania.

Wizz Air UK managing director Owain Jones said: “We are delighted to add another exciting route to a perfect city break destination.

“Iasi is a lively eastern Romanian city, packed with cultural delights and nature attractions, and is the newest destination in Wizz Air’s extensive network from the UK.”

Glyn Jones, CEO of Southend airport owner Stobart Aviation, said: “It is fantastic news that Wizz Air is immediately looking to grow the number of routes it is operating from London Southend.

“The initial flights which start this month have already proved popular, and passengers will have even more choice in terms of flying to central and eastern Europe next summer.”
