Female Norwegian Epic passenger lost at sea

A search failed to find a 63-year-old woman wearing her pyjamas who went overboard while sailing on Norwegian Epic.

The Korean woman was last seen in the early hours of Saturday morning as the 4,100-passenger vessel sailed between Cannes and Majorca.

The woman was declared missing from the Norwegian Cruise Line ship in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to reports.

Passenger Rebekah Sanderlin tweeted: “I’m on the Norwegian Epic cruise ship in the Mediterranean and we’ve spent all day looking for a passenger who fell overboard last night.”

Sanderlin told website weather.com passengers had been asked to lookout for a woman wearing pink pyjamas.

A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson said: “Early morning on June 8, a 63-year-old Korean female guest went overboard while the ship was sailing from Cannes, France to Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

“As soon as the report was made, the authorities were notified and a search and rescue operation ensued.

“The search has now ceased, and sadly, the guest has not been found.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s family during this difficult time.”

Norwegian Epic is due to end its seven-day western Mediterranean cruise today (Sunday) in Barcelona.
