Clia 2019: Virgin Voyages confirms first ship to visit UK

Virgin Voyages has confirmed that its first ship Scarlet Lady will sail to the UK and hinted that the vessel will call at more than one port.

The disclosure was made at the Clia Conference in Portsmouth today [May 16] by Tom McAlpin, the line’s president and chief executive, on stage.

Virgin group founder Sir Richard Branson also made a surprise appearance on stage alongside McAlpin.

The 2,770-passenger new build vessel makes its debut sailing from Miami to the Caribbean in 2020.

However, the adults-only ship will also be coming to the UK next March as the vessel sails to the US, McAlpin revealed.

McAlpin said: “We are going to take delivery of Scarlet Lady in Genoa, and we will take her to the UK.”

He declined to say which port the ship would call at, but he added: “We might bring her to more than one port.

“This is a really important market for us and our brand is really strong here. The travel agent community is really strong here and we want to showcase her.

“We will certainly invite a lot of our First Mates [travel agents] to come and see the ship and have some fun. We will do that depending on how well you are booking and registering them and their engagement.”
