Abta backs student travel conference

A conference to encourage the next generation of recruits into the travel and tourism sector is being held in London tomorrow.

The event comes amid growing urgency for travel and tourism companies to be able to secure a pipeline of suitable staff with the UK still poised to leave the EU later this year.

Abta education partner Westminster Kingsway College is hosting the conference with support from the travel association.

Travel and tourism students from across the UK are due to attend.

Speakers from Abta, Tui, British Airways, Royal Caribbean Cruises and Virgin Holidays are lined up.

The sessions and supporting workshops will give students insight into a range of areas including the industry’s work on managing emergency situations and how the industry can make travel more sustainable.

The conference will include a careers event for students and their tutors.

Lee Hayhurst, editor of Travel Weekly brand Travolution, will lead a session on the key issues facing the industry.

Abta education manager Vicki Wolf said: “Abta are thrilled to support Westminster Kingsway College with their first student travel conference.

“Westminster Kingsway College are Abta education partners. Abta currently has two other colleges and 12 universities as Abta education partners.

“We aim to build strong links between our education partners and Abta members.”
