Virgin Voyages partners with sustainable manufacturer

Virgin Voyages is set to use sustainable paper products on its ships when the line launches in 2020.

The new line has partnered with sustainable production company Emerald Brand to manufacture bath tissue, facial tissue, hot cups, paper towels and napkins made from the by-products of agricultural crops.

Typically, the by-products of crops are burned or wasted. The sustainable products will be used instead of single-use plastics which Virgin Voyages has banned from its ships.

Emerald Brand will also work with Virgin Voyages to measure the line’s global environmental footprint, the line said in a statement released on Earth Day (April 22).

Jill Stoneberg, director of sustainability and social impact at Virgin Voyages, said: “We have really ambitious goals here so no decision is taken lightly.

“Everything down to seemingly simple changes in our supply chain are made with the intention of giving Sailors [passengers] the absolute best experience while continuing to change business for good.”
