Intrepid expands cycling tours to Cuba, Colombia and beyond

Adventure specialist Intrepid Travel has launched seven new cycling tours for 2019, bringing the total number of cycling tours that it offers to 40.

Since launching cycling tours in 2016, it has reported strong demand from travellers, with the number of cycling bookings up 55% in 2018.

The new itineraries are in Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, as well as European destinations not traditionally known as cycling destinations, including the Balkans and Iceland.

Each tour averages between 18 to 36 miles of cycling per day and a support vehicle can transport bags between stops.

Aaron Hocking, Intrepid Travel’s managing director EMEA, said: “We’re seeing a strong interest in tours with an active element and these new cycling tours are the perfect option for clients to combine their hobby with amazing destinations around the world.”

New trips include the eight-day Colombia on Two Wheels tour with prices from £1,720 per person, includes seven nights’ bed-and-breakfast accommodation, activities and bike hire, but not flights.

The nine-day Cycle Iceland trip takes riders from Reykjavik, through Thingvellir National Park and then on to the waterfalls of the south.

It costs from £3,410 per person, which includes eight nights’ accommodation with breakfast and bike hire, but excludes flights.
