Spotlight: Get me to the Brits with Gold Medal

Gold Medal treated 10 agents and their guests to one of the biggest nights in the British music calendar. Natalie Marsh joined them.

Ten travel agents and their guests were treated to top seats at London’s O2 Arena by Gold Medal to witness one of the biggest nights in British music.

The agents, who experienced a VIP suite at the Brit Awards, were picked at random from those who made bookings with the trade-only tour operator in December and January.

They saw performances on the night from The Greatest Showman star Hugh Jackman, who opened the event, and superstar Pink, who rounded off the night with a rendition of her recent hits.

Fourteen awards were given out on the night, including to George Ezra for best British male solo artist, Jorja Smith for best British female solo artist, The 1975 for best British group and British album of the year, Little Mix for best music video of the year for Woman Like Me, and Ed Sheeran, who won the Global Success award.

The winning agents and their guests – many of whom were colleagues – had a buffet dinner and drinks in the private suite before taking their seats.

After the show, the group moved on to the InterContinental hotel at The O2 for music and entertainment at the official Brit Awards after-party.

Eight of the winners were selected from qualifying Gold Medal bookings in December and January, while two wildcard winners were chosen from video submissions. The competition garnered 1,150 entries. A further 11 agents were hosted in the main arena as runners up.

Tickets to the Brit Awards were an “obvious” prize for the operator’s peaks campaign, said Lisa McAuley, managing director – tour operations B2B at Gold Medal & Travel 2.

“It is such an iconic event,” she said. “There are not many people who don’t love music and there’s something really special about the Brits.”
