Tourism boards turn spotlight on Germany’s ‘cultural heart’

The neighbouring German states of Saxony and Thuringia are promoting their tourism attractions in the UK with a new website, branded as the Cultural Heart of Germany.

The cultural-heart-of-germany.com website has four main sections, detailing the region’s towns and cities; travel themes; travel routes; and nature and outdoors.

The themes and routes section also have information about the Bauhaus art school and modernism for visitors interested in the region’s design and architecture attractions.

Celebrating its centenary this year, the Bauhaus design school was founded in Thuringia and a new Bauhaus museum will open in Weimar on April 6.

Key cities to visit include Dresden, Leipzig and Erfurt, and the region also boasts palaces, gardens, historic railways and Unesco sites.

Created by Saxony Tourism and Thuringia Tourism, the website lists major annual events and provides news about activities.
