Snow shuts Liverpool airport runway

The runway at Liverpool airport was temporarily shut this morning due to snow.

The airport remained open as efforts were made to clear the runway with passengers advised to contact airlines directly for flight information.

Snow and ice was affected many roads in the north-west on England.

Manchester airport urged travellers to take care on the roads and allow plenty of time for journeys to the airport.

Flights were operating at other airports, although Glasgow airport urged passengers to take caution and to check with airlines for flight updates.

Disruption in parts of the country came as four yellow warnings for snow and ice were issued by the Met Office until Friday.

The Met Office warned of ice during this morning’s rush hour as well as snow showers in the west of the country.
