Great Rail Journeys highlights Scottish trips on Burns Night

Great Rail Journeys is marking Burns Night (January 25) with top tips for travel agents about its most popular Scottish tours.

The escorted group rail tour operator offers itineraries in Scotland that feature cities, wildlife, castles, lochs and the highlands.

Castles and Wildlife of Scotland features sites such as Eilean Donan Castle – which can be seen in the film Highlander – and Dunrobin Castle, as well as wildlife such as red squirrels, Scottish wild cats, and dolphins in the Moray Firth.

The seven-day tour costs from £1,495.

A different experience is offered by Enchanting Autumn Colours of the Highlands which features the Strathspey Steam Railway and the Cairngorm Mountain Railway – Britain’s only funicular railway – and whiskey tasting at the Glen Ord Distillery.

The six-day trip costs from £695 per person.

Another popular trip is Edinburgh, the Jacobite Steam Train and Scottish Islands & Lochs Cruise, which visits Loch Ness and Inverness.

This 13-day tour costs from £2,695.

Meanwhile, the nine-day Western Highlands & Hebrides visits Fingal’s Cave on Staffa, the Isle of Mull, and a whiskey distillery in Oban – for £1,375 per person

For the full Scottish experience, the operator recommends The Grand Tour of Scotland, which includes Edinburgh, with a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia, as well as stops at Fort William, the Isle of Skye, Loch Ness, St Andrews and Dundee.

The 10-day tour costs from £2,495 per person.
