Nepal to woo the trade at UK roadshows

The Nepal Tourist Board will host three trade roadshows next week to boost its profile in the UK.

Key travel agents, tour operators and media partners have been invited to hear more about Nepal’s adventure travel credentials.

The NTB aims to attract upmarket trekkers, as well as “adventure-loving millennials” by promoting activities such as rafting, paragliding, skydiving, bungee-jumping, zip-lining, mountain biking and jungle experiences.

Tourist arrivals from the UK topped 63,000 in 2018 – up 15% year-on-year – and overall numbers rose by 25% to almost 1.2 million.

The Nepalese government hopes numbers will reach two million next year, and it has launched an initiative called ‘Visit Nepal 2020 – Lifetime Experience’ to encourage more visitors.

Tourism infrastructure and new airports have been prioritised by the government, and the tourist board is working with operators to develop packages.

Eight hotels are expected to open in 2019, and heritage sites damaged by an earthquake in 2015 have been restored.

The roadshows will feature a prize draw offering an eight-day holiday for two people to Nepal. The prize does not include the long-haul fares, but internal flights and all accommodation is included.

The events will be at Jojolapa Bar & Restaurant, Birmingham (January 21); The Castlefield Rooms, Manchester (January 22); and We the Curious, Bristol (January 23).
