Mark Warner agency sales manager walks overnight marathon for charity

Mark Warner’s agency sales manager has raised more than £1,200 by walking a marathon through the middle of the night in London.

Julie Franklin covered 26.5 miles during Dream Challenges’ Walk the Night event in aid of Breast Cancer Care and Prostate Cancer UK.

The feat took her eight and a half hours overnight from Saturday July 13, finishing at 5:57am Sunday morning.

She was joined by travel agent Hazel Williams, of Northampton Travel Services, on the walk, along with four other friends.

Franklin said: “Breast and prostate cancers are two diseases close to my heart having close friends who have had to have mastectomies – some double – but thankfully recovered and having male friends who have had treatment for prostate cancer.

“This was my chance to do something small to make a difference and raise funds. Hazel from Northampton Travel Service had already registered for this event so we chose to walk together. Hazel’s reason was very poignant as her dad was suffering from prostate cancer. Sadly she lost him before the walk but we held him in our hearts and did him proud.

“Walking through London at night was amazing. We saw the sights starting in day light as we fought our way through Oxford Street shoppers, past the Bruno Mars concert in Hyde Park, passing late night revellers in Leicester Square and avoiding drunken partygoers. We marched through the darkness of the night singing various songs to keep our spirits up, crossing Tower Bridge as dawn broke and saw the sunrise as we made our way past The Shard, which was just fantastic.
