Hundreds of passengers delayed by Manchester airport power failure

Hundreds of passengers faced flight delays last night as a power failure brought Terminal Two at Manchester airport to a standstill for more than two hours.

Four inbound services, including those from Dalaman, Muscat and Doha, which used Terminal One at the airport instead, were among eight flights affected.

The airport issued an apology for the power failure as engineers from the local electricity provider, Electricity North West, were called to the scene.

Alternative arrangements were made to enable the departure of four outbound flights which were at various stages of processing when the power failed, according to the airport.

Power was restored at about 9.45pm and security re-opened to allow passengers to continue with their journeys.

However, people took to social media to complain about the heat in the terminal and a lack of information.

The airport said the power failure was a result of an HV power cable interruption. “We thank customers for their patience and apologise once again for the inconvenience,” the airport tweeted.
