Aftershocks warning after Osaka earthquake

A warning of aftershocks was issued after an earthquake struck the Osaka area of Japan today.

At least three people were confirmed dead and dozens injured in the magnitude 6.1 quake which hit shortly after 8am local time.

The Monday morning commute was disrupted, as dozens of domestic flights in and out of Osaka were grounded, while train and subway service in the area including the bullet train were suspended to check for damage.

Passengers were seen exiting trains on the tracks between stations.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued revised travel advice early this morning confirming that the earthquake was felt in the wider Kansai region.

“There is currently some disruption to the rail network in the Kansai area, and the Japan Meteorological Agency have said that there is a continued risk of aftershocks,” the FCO said.

“British nationals in the affected areas should follow the advice of the local authorities, be aware of the risk of aftershocks and monitor local news for updates.”
