Advance train bookings increase

Further evidence of the impact of the recession and weak pound comes with news from rail travel firm that advance ticket sales booked through its site are up 43% year on year.

It measured bookings for Maunday Thursday to Easter Saturday on rail routes across the country. Birmingham to London is up 238% Glasgow to London up 320% and Edinburgh to Manchester is up 141%.

According to nearly 45,000 people have already booked their tickets for the Easter bank holiday through the website – up from almost 31,000 last year.
