Agents and cruise lines urged to take part in Great British Beach Clean

Agents and member lines are being urged by cruise body Clia UK & Ireland to participate in the Maritime Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean in September.

Almost 7,000 people took part last year by removing 255,209 pieces of litter from 339 beaches.

Clia has secured places on September 14 at West Wittering, West Sussex and September 17 at Formby Freshfield, Lancashire.

Clia UK & Ireland director Andy Harmer said: “Working to maintain clean oceans and beaches is crucial.

“No single industry relies more on the splendour of our planet’s oceans and seas, nor the pristine beauty of the world’s harbours and seaside communities than the cruise industry.

“We are delighted to be joining The Great British Beach Clean as part of our ongoing sustainability work.”

The Great British Beach Clean is the biggest beach clean and survey in the UK and provides an insight into the litter problems our seas and oceans are facing.

The Maritime Conservation Society has been recording the information for more than 25 years and lobbying governments to stop items getting there in the first place.

To take part in these events, Clia members can register via cruiseexperts.org
