Spain and Croatia star for self-catering specialist Novasol

Mainland Spain is the most popular destination attracting last-minute summer holiday bookings while Croatia has seen the biggest rise in sales, according to self-catering specialist Novasol.

Costa Calida, Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are the top three most popular summer sun destinations followed by the Croatian resorts of Pula and Trogir in fourth and fifth place.

Croatia has seen the biggest increase in last-minute bookings, with an increase of 37% over the same period last year.

Late bookings have risen to resorts across Croatia’s Dalmatian coast with Split and Omis proving popular.

Italy is also showing significant growth, up 51% year on year, while sales of self-catering holidays to France are also outselling last year, up 36%.

Central Europe is also proving popular with the company’s booking data revealing sales of self-catering holiday homes in countries such as Germany, Belgium and Holland being up 56% on 2017.

Novasol general manager Alex Stuart said: “Once again Spain, with its guaranteed sun and beautiful resorts is the most popular destination amongst last-minute bookers but our data suggests that 2018 could be the year when Croatia finally becomes a top choice for British holidaymakers.

“Whilst many people appear to be looking for guaranteed sun, others are looking to discover new and exciting destinations with destinations across central Europe proving more popular than ever.”
