Heathrow Hub wins backing from two prominent Conservative MPs

Two prominent Conservative MPs have come out in favour of a cheaper alternative to building a third runway at Heathrow.

Jacob Rees-Mogg and George Freeman today backed the Heathrow Hub extended runway scheme being included in the national policy statement the government is due to lay before Parliament.

Both have signed a letter to transport secretary Chris Grayling requesting it be included.

Rees-Mogg said the Heathrow Hub scheme “has lower costs, is faster and has lower landing charges and it is very important the scheme is included.”

Jock Lowe, director of Heathrow Hub said: “Our scheme is cheaper, simpler, quieter and quicker to construct. It must be included as an option.

“We fear that, yet again, the Department for Transport has bungled things and fallen for the sales patter of a commercial monopoly, Heathrow Airport.”

The development came as senior ministers gathered to discuss giving the initial green light to Heathrow expansion.
