British holidaymaker dies from 50ft fall at Turkish airport

A British holidaymaker returning home from holiday died after falling 50ft at a Turkish airport.

Witnesses at Dalaman airport said that Andrew Westlake, 30, from County Durham, fell from a barrier inside the terminal on Tuesday.

He had been escorted off the aircraft that his girlfriend and daughter were taking to return home, according to Turkish media.

A witness claimed that Westlake told a Thomas Cook Airlines worker who rushed to his aid that “he just wanted it to end”. He died later in hospital.

A family friend said yesterday that there had been a “dispute” between Westlake and his partner, The Times reported.

“They have had quite a volatile relationship but the common denominator is their baby, who they both love,” the friend said.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that it was supporting the family and was in touch with local authorities.
