Travel Weekly launches Fraud Awareness Month

Febraury 2009 is Fraud Awareness Month on Travel WeeklyTravel Weekly today launches its Fraud Awareness Month to alert the industry of the increased risk of fraud during the recession.

The industry has always worked together to combat fraud and is now going onestep further by forming the Prevention of Fraud in Travel (PROFiT) group.

Headed by Teletext head of compliance Barry Gooch, the group has members from across the industry, including the Travel Trust Association, Global Travel Group, British Airways and ABTA.

In the weeks leading up to the launch of PROFiT, we will look at the latest situation on travel fraud. This week, we look at the fight back against fraud and examine the ramifications of the four bogus agents jailed last year in one of the biggest cases the industry has ever seen.

In the coming weeks, we will uncover the latest email scammers trying to catch agents out, ask what fraud risks surround events ahead of London 2012 Olympics and put your questions to the experts.
