Greek Islands summer prices drop compared to 2017

Many of the most popular Greek Islands are cheaper for summer holidays this year over 2017, according to new research.

The cost of holidays to Kos are 11% down while Kefalonia is 8% cheaper than last year.

Croatia and Zante are more than 5% cheaper than last summer, the study by On the Beach shows.

Spain and its islands as the most popular holiday destination this summer, with Majorca the top spot.

The Spanish destinations of Tenerife, Costa Blanca, Lanzarote and Ibiza are also in demand.

Latest booking data reveals Greece as the second most popular summer sun destination.

British holidaymakers are returning to Turkey once again this year with the country named the third most popular destination followed by the Portuguese Algarve and Malta.

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, and Sardinia are the fastest growing destinations ahead of Halkidiki, Cancun in Mexico and Marrakech.

Florida is the top long-haul destination this summer, closely followed by Cancun, then the Dominican Republic, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

On the Beach marketing director Alan Harding said: “Once again Spain is dominating the market but other destinations such as Greece, Portugal and Malta are proving very popular this year.

“Our booking data also shows that Turkey is back and we expect this growth in popularity to continue.

“Greece is a very attractive option for those looking for great value, with holidays in several islands cheaper this summer compared to last.”
