Royal Caribbean takes delivery of world’s largest cruise ship

The largest cruise ship in the world has been delivered to Royal Caribbean International.

Symphony of the Seas will carry more than 5,500 passengers across 2,759 cabins and suites when it enters service this week.

The ship includes 28 additional balcony rooms over its Oasis-class sister vessels and introduced more dining options and activities.

Symphony of the Seas will run a five-night preview sailing from March 31 to Naples and Rome (Civitavecchia) before embarking on its maiden voyage, a seven-night itinerary from its summer home port of Barcelona

The ship will then transfer to Miami where it will be based year-round from November 10 running seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruises.

Royal Caribbean Cruises chairman and chief executive, Richard Fain, said: “Symphony of the Seas is the latest example of how our people work to push the envelope of innovation with each new ship.

“The Oasis class has been a trend-setting design, but the team has evolved the design to build on that success to provide even more incredible family adventures.”

Royal Caribbean International president and CEO Michael Bayley added: “Symphony will take family holidays to an all new level with energy and options never before found in one place.

“This ship is the perfect blend of our greatest hits we know guests love and a lineup of vibrant, new restaurants, activities and unparalleled entertainment – all purposefully designed around holidaymakers’ preferences.”
