Carnival Cruise Line announces Queen Latifah as new ship’s godmother

Carnival Cruise Line has named Queen Latifah as godmother for new ship Carnival Horizon.

The Grammy award-winning musician, actress and author will front the ship’s official naming ceremony on May 23.

The event will be held during an invitation-only overnight gala onboard the ship in New York.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, hailed Latifah’s “fun-loving spirit and positive, can-do attitude” when announcing the line’s decision.

Latifah was the first hip-hop artist to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

She said: “Carnival is an iconic American brand and it’s an honour to be named godmother of Carnival Horizon and take part in the event on May 23.”

Carnival’s charity partner St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, will be recognised in the ceremony.
