About John's trip
John, who has been in a wheelchair for the last 14 years, is on a 32-day trip through Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong using various modes of transport and accommodation, from airlines to car transfers and hotels to cruise ships.
The aim of his trip is to raise awareness about the accessibility issues faced by disabled holidaymakers, and to show the travel industry that communication between travel agents, tour operators, hotels and cruiselines is essential in providing the right holiday for a disabled passenger.
John has also launched equallywelcome.com, a not-for-profit travel review website that will allow disabled travellers to post write-ups of holidays, hotels and modes of transport.
John will be telling travelweekly.co.uk about his journey through a range of reports over the next month.
John said: "I'm looking forward to this trip - it's really special. I am really scared what we are going to encounter on the way."
"We are looking forward to it but with a bit of anxiety."
