Southend airport named ‘most punctual’ in London by OAG

Southend airport has been ranked the most punctual airport serving London, according to figures for January published by OAG.

More than nine out of ten (90.9%) flights landing or taking off from Southend were within 15 minutes of schedule.

This compared to Luton (82.7%), Heathrow (80.7%), Stansted (74%), Gatwick (71.1%) and London City (69.9%).

Glyn Jones, chief executive of the Essex airport’s owners Stobart Aviation, said: “Passengers suffer stress and aggravation when their flights are delayed. We’re proud of our record and these latest punctuality figures again show that London Southend is punching well above its weight in terms of performance.

“This is just another indication of the chronic state of capacity in the south-east.

“London airports except Southend are already struggling to cope with the sheer number of passengers. Terminals are crowded and the whole travel experience is all-too-often woeful.

“The short to medium-term solution for government is to examine the potential of smaller airports to manage the overflow. London Southend could accommodate ten times the million passengers it has now.”
