Manchester airport to sponsor Glasgow Pride in three-year deal

Manchester Airport’s Patrick Alexander and Seb Thompson join Pride Glasgow’s David Sinclair

Manchester airport is extending the reach of its sponsorship of Pride celebrations to Glasgow.

The UK’s third largest airport is becoming headline sponsor of Pride Glasgow for the next three years, 24 hours after confirming its support for Pride Edinburgh.

The airport has also sponsored Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle Prides in the last year and recently renewed support for the Birmingham event.

Pride Glasgow is Scotland’s largest LGBTI Pride festival with more than 18,000 people attending last year. This year’s event takes place on July 14-15 at Kelvingrove Park in the west end of Glasgow.

As well as being headline sponsor, the airport will also sponsor the main stage and take over the VIP area.

People attending Pride Glasgow will have the chance to win a £2,500 holiday to San Francisco, which is served by Virgin Atlantic and Thomas Cook Airlines from Manchester.

The airport announced a similar sponsorship package with Pride Edinburgh yesterday (Wednesday), the first time it has sponsored a Pride festival outside of England.

Airport head of marketing Patrick Alexander said: “We are delighted to be working with Pride Glasgow for the first time to support such a worthwhile event.

“We have sponsored a host of other Prides in England, but thought it was time to come north of the border to support two in Scotland.

“Our involvement in both is a terrific way to thank all of the passengers who choose to fly from Manchester airport each year.”
