Tui to take delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8

Tui takes delivery of its first new-generation Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft tomorrow as part of the renewal and modernisation of its Europe-wide fleet.

The first of nine new 737s to enter service this year will be operated by Tui Fly in Belgium with others being deployed in the group’s airlines in Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands.

The first 737 MAX for TUI Fly Germany is due to be delivered in early 2019.

Tui Group has ordered 70 new aircraft in total to renew its narrow-body aircraft fleet by 2023.

After delivery of the first aircraft to TUI Fly Belgium, there are 51 additional orders of the 737 MAX 8 and 18 orders for the 737 MAX 10.

Tui was the first European operator to select the latest and largest member of the 737 MAX family of aircraft.

The group owns six European airlines in Germany, the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and France. The Tui airlines operate a fleet of 150 aircraft.

The 737 MAX claims a 20% fuel saving and 14% lower carbon emissions compared to aircraft of this size previously operated by Tui. The aircraft has also a 40% smaller noise footprint.

Group chief executive Fritz Joussen is to receive the latest aircraft at Brussels airport following a delivery flight from Boeing in Seattle via Iceland.
