Bourne Leisure and Hilton caught up in Russell Hume meat recall

Bourne Leisure and Hilton Hotels are among companies reported to have been caught up in a meat recall.

Hilton said that a “small number” of its hotels have disposed of products from meat supplier Russell Hume.

Bourne Leisure, which own Butlin’s, Haven and Warner Leisure Hotels, said it had used Russell Hume, but had switched to a different supplier for now, the BBC reported.

The Food Standards Agency said on Wednesday that it had stopped any meat leaving Russell Hume company sites and unused meat had been withdrawn from its customers.

There is no indication that people have become ill from eating meat supplied by Russell Hume, which said that the issue was one of mislabelling.

The FSA said: “Russell Hume were unable to demonstrate compliance with food hygiene rules at its locations, so we have stopped any product from leaving their sites until the business can provide assurances that they are complying with the relevant legislation, and that they are producing safe food.

“We have also instructed Russell Hume to undertake a withdrawal of all affected product in the supply chain.”

Russell Hume said: “The recall was a precautionary measure because of mislabelling. We have no reason to believe the product was unsafe to eat.”
