Barrhead Travel records highest day of sales

Barrhead Travel says it recorded its highest ever sales on Saturday, January 13.

The Scottish-headquartered travel agency chain, which opened a branch in Leicester and plans for six more south of the border, said its year-on-year sales were up 28%.

Its top-selling destinations included Majorca, Orlando and Tenerife.

All-inclusive was “by far” the most popular board basis, according to Barrhead Travel which led the company to believe customers “continue to seek value for money”.

Barrhead said footfall was “high” but that there was also “huge demand online” with bookings up 26% year-on-year.

The company said there was also “particular demand” for cruise, with Barrhead Travel’s own tailor-made cruise product – which ties sailings from Barcelona, Genoa and Venice in with exclusive British Airways charter flights – sitting within the top bookings.

Cruise bookings overall were up 11% year-on-year.

Sharon Munro, chief executive of Barrhead Travel, said: “Our record-breaking sales last weekend are hugely exciting for the business. More than ever before, holidaymakers want 100% transparency from their travel agent, and that is something we provide whether you book in store, over the phone or online. Our customers know that they will be looked after from beginning to end when they book with Barrhead Travel.”
