Aito Conference: Nine operators increase commission to mitigate credit card fees

A further nine tour operators have pledged to increase agent commission by 0.5% to help offset new credit card charges.

Three members of the Association of Tour Operators – Sunvil, The Experience Travel Group and Prestige Holidays – as well as Kuoni have already said they will increase agency commission in advance of the abolition of credit card fee charges on consumers in January 2018.

But at this year’s Aito conference in Alentejo in Portugal more suppliers said they would also now be increasing commission.

African Collection, Classic Collection Holidays, Abercrombie & Kent, Travel Gallery, Can Be Done, Bamboo Travel, Ioanian Holidays, 2by2 Holidays and McKinlay Kidd have all now signed up to increase commission.

Aito Agents chairman Gemma Antrobus said: “We are thrilled and a lot of agents will be relieved by this news. The 0.5% will not cover the card fees but it more than meets us halfway.”
