Serious M23 collision delays Gatwick passengers

People travelling by road to Gatwick faced disruption this morning following an overnight motorway crash.

The M23 southbound was closed due to investigation work into a road traffic collision from M25 Junction 8 for Redhill and Junction 9 for Gatwick at about midnight.

Surrey Police confirmed the M23 had closed due to a “serious collision” involving two vehicles.

The M23 southbound re-opened after being closed for more than seven hours.

The airport warned drivers of “severe congestion” this morning.

A return to normal traffic conditions was not expected until between 9.30am 9.45am, according to Highways England.
