BA expands long-haul from Gatwick

Toronto is being added as a new British Airways route from Gatwick next summer while Las Vegas will also be served from London’s second airport.

Three flights a week will run to both destinations, with the Las Vegas service being reinstated on March 27 and Toronto starting on May 1.

The Toronto link will be BA’s first service to Canada from Gatwick, and follows the introduction of new long-haul routes to Oakland and Fort Lauderdale in the US.

BA already operates to Las Vegas from Heathrow and is adding Gatwick departures due to high demand.

The expansion will see BA competing with Air Canada Rouge, Air Transat and Westjet to Toronto from Gatwick and Virgin Atlantic and Norwegian to Las Vegas.

The additional two destinations takes the number of new routes introduced by BA at Gatwick this year to six and the total number of routes flying from Gatwick to 71, 24 of them long-haul and 47 short-haul.

Summer 2018 fares lead in at £453 return to Toronto and £699 to Las Vegas.

BA networks and alliances director Sean Doyle said: “Gatwick has always offered a great range of long-haul destinations, but adding Toronto and Las Vegas to the summer schedule will take the number of transatlantic routes to 21, making Canada, the US and the Caribbean more accessible than ever before.

“It’s particularly exciting to be adding Canada to the list of places our customers will be able to explore from Gatwick, and we look forward to welcoming our Canadian customers in to London.”
