Two-day strike by Portuguese airport immigration staff called off

A threat of two days of disruption at airports in Portugal has been lifted at the last minute.

A planned strike by immigration staff at Portuguese airports today and tomorrow (Friday) was called off last night, according to easyJet.

The budget airline and British Airways had been advising passengers due to fly from Portugal over the two days to check in early.

Airports due to be affected by longer immigration queues for both arriving and departing passengers included Lisbon, Faro, Funchal, Oporto and Ponta Delgada.

Airlines had planned to maintain their normal schedules should the strike threat be carried out.

However, easyJet said last night: “Please be aware we have just been informed that the immigration staff at Portuguese airports strike on Thursday and Friday has been called off.

“Please arrive at the airports for your original time of departure.”
