Man charged with attempted armed robbery of high street travel agent

A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted robbery of a travel agents in Nottingham and possession of an imitation firearm and knife.

The owner of Destinations Travel was assaulted in the incident, according to police, and was taken to hospital as a result.

Damien Mellors, 34, of Trefan Gardens, is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on August 16 after his initial hearing at the city’s magistrates court on Wednesday.

Police were called to the store, in Carlton Hill, at 3pm on Wednesday, July 12. Nottinghamshire Police say Mellors entered the shop with a weapon and reportedly demanded money.

Mellors charges are:

• Attempted robbery.
• Two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.
• Possession of imitation firearm with intent to cause fear, criminal damage.
• Possession of a bladed article.
