Corporate travel agent in talks with minister over Grenfell Tower response

The issue of emergency accommodation and how responses to civil emergencies can be improved in the wake if the Grenfell Tower fire have been raised by independent meetings and travel management company Inntel.

Bosses from the Essex-based company met with local MP Priti Patel to showcase how its services can be used to help civilians in disaster situations as well as larger, corporate clients.

The company outlined its developing business disruption solutions to Patel, the international development secretary.

Inntel business development director Jane Dibble said: “Our corporate travel and accommodation services are operated by systems which make volume hotel bookings very straightforward and we are very keen to support emergency situations wherever we can.”

Patel said: “The tragedy at Grenfell has focused all our minds on how we can improve contingency planning for civil emergencies.

“Families affected by Grenfell Tower and the problems with fire safety in flats in Camden have shown that when lives are turned upside down they need support to secure immediate accommodation.

“The travel industry has clear plans in place to deal with emergency situations and the discussions with Inntel on how improvements can be made to civil contingency planning were useful and productive.”

Every person made homeless by the Grenfell fire is supposed to have received an offer of temporary accommodation by today (Wednesday) but only nine of the offers have so far been accepted, the BBC reported.
