Inspiretec chief Simon Powell picks up two gongs

Travel technology entrepreneur Simon Powell has won two awards.

The Inspiretec chief executive named entrepreneur of the year at the Cardiff Business Awards and digital ambassador of the year at the Wales Online Digital Awards 2017.

The digital awards recognise businesses and entrepreneurs making outstanding contributions to the sector in Wales.

Working in the digital travel industry for more than 25 years, Powell recently set up the Inspiretec Group that brings Comtec, Eysys, Sequence, Clarius Finance and Incentriq Canada under one roof.

The group, with a range of technical and digital capability, has its sights on expansion, with the team expected to grow from 110 stff to 170 in 12 months, forecasting revenues of £9 million.

More recently, Powell has invested within the InspireWales fund to provide finance and help to Welsh start-ups.

“It’s great to be a part of this fresh new celebration of digital in Wales,” he said.

“I’m also thankful to the judges for the award, but also to my team, where without them this award wouldn’t be possible. Wales is playing its part on the digital stage and we’re very much looking forward to what the future holds for Inspiretec and the wider industry.”

Editor of Wales Online Paul Rowland said: “These awards  showcase the excellence that exists in Wales’ fast expanding digital sector, from established innovative firms and entrepreneurs driving impressive market share, to exciting start-ups with huge potential for growth.”
