More than 14 million Brits planning package holiday this year

The popularity of the package holiday is still going strong 65 years after the first charter flight flew from the UK to Majorca, according to a new survey.

More than 14 million people plan to take a package holiday this year but almost a third shy away from booking one mistakenly thinking they come with a higher price tag, according to research by TravelSupermarket.

Some also fear being allocated a bad hotel or getting ripped off or not being insured if something went wrong.

Of those who take package holidays, most agree they are a great option because they offer best value for money (50%), ease of booking (41%), peace of mind (35%) and assurance that everything is taken care of (33%).

Nearly 63% of people also agrees that package holidays provide the best value holiday experience overall.

The most popular package destinations are mainland Spain, followed closely by Greece, Majorca, Tenerife and the other Canary Islands.
