Bomb alert forces temporary closure of Leeds Bradford airport

Leeds Bradford airport was temporarily closed and passengers evacuated at the weekend after a suspicious package was found.

A bomb disposal team was called to carry out a controlled explosion on the package which was discovered on Saturday evening.

Incoming and outgoing flights were delayed and there were reports of passengers spending an hour on grounded planes.

Some flights due to land at the airport were diverted before it reopened at about midnight.

West Yorkshire Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the alert, although the incident is not believed to have been “malicious or terror-related”.
